I hope all of you had a great 4th of July, a great weekend and now are having a great week.
Last week was a rough week for me spiritually. I was so ready to give up. Here is just one thing that happened this week.
My sweet mother who is in the rehabilitation area of a nursing home was not picked up Friday the 4th for her 2pm dialysis appointment. It all started when I received a call on my cell phone. It sounded something like this:
Mom: Hi Linda! I bet your surprised to be hearing from me.
Me: Hi Mom! Why are you still at rehab? Shouldn't you be at dialysis by now? (It's 2:15 pm & I am looking at the number she called from. She called from rehab.)
Mom: No, I don't have dialysis today
Me: Well sure you do. I know you don't have therapy today, but you most certainly have dialysis
Mom: No, I'm off today
Me: I'll be right there
Mom: Ok, see you soon
I got off the phone and called her dialysis center and they were all there waiting for her. I drove to rehab and went straight to the nurses station. I asked why mom didn't get picked up and they were all clueless. It was a huge mystery. I offered to drive her to her appointment and pick her up but they insisted on having the regular company Medi Car come and pick her up. I waited with her until they arrived ~ around 3pm. My mom was so confused and upset. It doesn't take much for her to cry these days with all that she has been through. I felt horrible waving goodbye to her as she was lifted up into the van. I called her to make sure she arrived there safely and all was well.
Ok, so now I go home and pick up everyone and we head over to our friends for a BBQ and fireworks for the kids. Around 7:30pm I receive a call from the nurse at the dialysis center telling me that Medi Car did not pick up mom. She should have been picked up at 6pm. I insist on picking her up but the nurse tells me she called the company and someone is already on their way to get her. Talk about stress!!! I called the company and they apologized over and over. They reassured me that there was a mix up due to the holiday and that the driver was in route and would be there in 5 - 10 minutes. Meanwhile my mom's cell phone battery is dying. I have her hang up to save the battery for one last call to me letting me know she has been picked up. My stomach was in total knots. I received a call from the nurse around 7:50 telling me mom was picked up. What a mess! I can't wait until she is home with me for good.
